Yak Wool — A Gift from the Tibetan Plateau

As the "Boat of the snow region" living on the 4,600 meters above sea level plateau, the yak feeds on grass and drinks glacial water. Yak wool is a precious gift to the people lived in Tibet. In the alpine climate, yaks produce fine fleece every autumn to keep them warm in the harsh winter. In spring, the wool is naturally shed and collected by herders. Yak wool is collected once a year from June to August. The total amount produced by adult yaks is no more than 300 grams per year, and only about 10% can be used as textile material. It is a rare natural material with three natural characteristics.

The medullary layer of yak wool fiber is in the shape of bamboo knots, which stores air more easily and makes it warm to wear.

The single fiber strength of yak wool fiber is 1.5 times that of cashmere, so yak wool products are tough, strong and not easily pilled.

Yak wool is mostly in dark brown, coffee or light gray. The wool itself is naturally colored and has excellent shade fastness.

In addition, the high tenacity of yak wool fiber gives it good elasticity, and after repeated loosening, washing and combing, it is endowed with a soft and warm touch, making it a premium garment material. Yak wool can be placed into soil for natural degradation, making it a sustainable textile material.
