As a Chinese designer brand fashion company, JIANGNANBUYI has paid close attention to natural fabrics and traditional handicrafts. To revive the same handicrafts so that they can be passed on and developed further, JIANGNANBUYI chose to engage in creation stemming from a process of deconstruction and fusion and to protect the millennial fabric civilization.

In 2022, JIANGNANBUYI and Rong Design Library launched a five-year project called “Textile Possibility” to systematically record, sort out and summarize traditional fabrics, their creative context and varying crafts’ details by exploring the birthplace of traditional handicrafts and meeting craftworkers. This has allowed and will pave the way for them to combine modern design and advanced manufacturing technology so that these traditional fabrics and craftsmanship will continue to be passed on. Research findings are also freely shared with the industry, offering inspiration and creativity to all.

With weaving as the theme in the first year of the project, three traditional handicrafts, Liuyang Xiabu cloth, Dali Dong fabric and Wuzhen bamboo weaving, were particularly highlighted. At the annual authoritative Asian design feast Design Shanghai on June 8, Rong Design Library and JNBY staged the Rong–Weaving Design Exhibition, where pioneering works by 27 designers from home and abroad who focused on the deconstruction of weaving in traditional Chinese crafts over the past year will be unveiled in tandem with their collective experiences. These works will show the beautiful, new life of traditional weaving under the power of design, and two JNBYHOME concept works have also made their debut as a result.

The magic of techniques enables tradition to live in the present.
